Things have changed since the last Jellicle Ball. After the celebrations had stopped, the red tom came back, taking complete control of the junkyard. Macavity gives the orders, but you control the Jellicles. Live out their lives, deaths, hopes, dreams and fears as they struggle to come to grips with having their freedom ripped away from them...

Ekaterina had just arrived back from the streets where she'd spent most of the day doing errands for Magus and sorting out a few troublesome cats. It wasn't the greatest job in the world but until the proper henchcat/Ominous war began, that was all she was useful for. The Balinese just wished Magus would hurry up and say when the tribe could go and ransack Macavity's place. Maybe then she'd feel a bit more useful and she could use her magic on full volume.
She couldn't help but laugh at the thoughts that went through her head. Full volume? Kat was still having trouble with a few spells that should've been easy. She glanced down the tunnel and stopped. Usually she'd have met Eden and Nahtinian around here and then gone off to Eden's little network of rooms with them to play a few card games - which she almost always won - but today they seemed to be busy, too busy to play a card game with little old Kat.
She continued the conversation with herself in her head as she sat down on an old bench. Well, isn't this lovely. Nobody to talk to. It's not that bad. You spent months by yourself, remember? You still managed to survive then. I know but Nat and Ed are sort of my friends. It's kind of boring without them. Well, make your own fun. Work on those stupid spells you can't do. Kat spied a old tuna can around the corner and focused on it. Really focused, trying to lift it and move it. It shifted slightly but didn't go very far. "Silly, silly spells!! She exclaimed loudly, not caring if someone heard her. She got up and went over to the can, kicking it roughly.
It had not been such a productive day, for Vanora. She had spent most of her time getting used to the underground’s layout, often getting lost in the flurry of sudden crowds passing by and the mass of identical tunnels. After losing her way several times, she had resigned to her room, after finding several hours after she first set out. At least in the junkyard, she knew where most things were. And the warehouse hadn’t taken long to get used to, but all this seemed so much bigger and much more frightening. Great metal things flew past everyone in a while, scaring the living daylights out of her. It was the one thing she hated.
After a hour or so of rebuilding what little confidence was still available to her, the Somali had gone wandering again, this time remembering the way to around to a spot she had discovered earlier. Somewhat she could sit and watch everyone go by. It was located by the piping, by the ceiling of one of the tunnels. Which is exactly where she was now, just watching the world go by. Though, it seemed there weren’t many cats around in this particular tunnel. Bertand had explained that many went out on the streets around this time, something she wasn’t so keen on after her previous experiences with street toms.
Sooner or later, she would have to take that brave step, however. She was trying her best to fix up the courage to sneak back to the yard, to retrieve her belongings, which still sat in an old box in one of Jellylorum’s cupboards. One of those things was her teddy-cat, whose likeness she also needed to visit. Plucking up the valour to visit Vimala was something a little more difficult, it seemed.
As she pondered, drifting into her own thoughts, she was not aware of another cat beneath her, until a can in her eye line moved. She blinked, confused. It was either some breeze she could not feel at this height or “Magic…” a little whisper escaped her thin lips. She’d never seen it so close. Curious, Vanora watched the cream coloured cat that emerged from out of her line of sight, as she began to vent her irritation on the tin object.
“Why are you so upset? I thought that was rather good.” She said, trying to make herself heard to the other. It was quite, but she was high up.
Kat went to kick the can again but froze her foot midway as she heard a small voice. It wasn't familiar to her, but she presumed female which made her feel relatively safe. Placing her foot back down to earth, she glanced up to where she thought the voice had come from. "Oh..." She breathed quietly as she found the source. Her eyes swiftly changed to black then back to blue. "Hello, Vanora."
The queen was definitely new to this place but Ekaterina didn't really need to read her mind for that. She'd already guessed. "It wasn't any good at all, really. It's an improvement though." Very little, however.
For a few seconds, she felt somewhat cold and tingly, almost ill, before the feeling evaporated. She could only guess that the stranger had delved into her mind, which was confirmed once the Balinese managed to pull her name from nowhere. Her ears gave a little flick at the strange feeling. This can was certainly milking her curiosity. “Hello, yourself.” She decided to remain in place, for now, a safe distance. She had no idea what this stranger was like, after all.
“Really? I’m going to have to disagree. You’re better than Macavity.” True, she was attempting to fish out delicate compliments, because she honestly needed the friends in this new tribe. She knew no one, but she could say, hand on heart, that she’d not see decent physical movement like that from Macavity. Just a little hocus pocus with a key, the night he’d raped her. She shivered at the memory.
“I’m not so good with the magic myself. So may I kindly ask for your name, my lady?”Suck up. her own mind seemed to mock her, but she ignored it.
We've got ourselves a flatterer... The Balinese smiled briefly before letting the corners of her lips drop to neutral. She would not let her guard down. She raised her brows however as the other mentioned Macavity. I wish... "You know him?" She wondered out loud, her own curiousity showing. It would be interesting to hear how her old colleague was doing these days.
Suddenly she disappeared but not for long as she appeared beside Vanora, her legs crossed, elbows on her knees and her head in her palms. "Me?" Well, obviously you silly cat. "I'm Ekaterina, but please call me Kat or Rina." She answered silkily, cocking an eyebrow and pursing her lips.
She matched the little smirk, but hers remained for a longer period. Even as she was questioned upon the great hidden paw. “Unfortunately, yes.” The Somali replied simply. Macavity was certainly not a cat she wished to know, especially after all the hell she’d put him through. Coming to the Ominous was one of the ways she was hoping to get back at him, since having his queenfriend hadn’t really done much for her side of the fight.
Somehow, she guessed what that disappearance meant. So she was not surprised when Ekaterina appeared beside her, her voice louder now. “Pretty.” It was undoubtedly a beautiful name, definitely one that followed the rule of the true name for a cat. Her own was pathetic, however. After a few moments, she glanced back at Ekaterina; taking in her now more detailed appearance, before Vanora rolled from her belly to her back.
Seemingly, it was just a move for comfort, when really she was trying to show how little of a threat she was to the older cat, exposing her underside in the same way a dog would; because she honestly saw herself as nothing more than a mutt. The Somali brushed herself off. “Yes, you’re far better than Macavity. He does ‘sparkles’.” She waved her paws in a ‘jazz hands’ fashion, mocking the red tom, before letting them drop to her belly at the same time bringing her knees to face the air. Her smirk returned.
Kat nodded, understanding what the queen meant exactly except not to the extent Vanora had in mind. She'd never liked Macavity when she first met him and the dislike had just grown even more when he'd teased and tormented her when she tried to learn magic with him. "He's a very unpleasant fellow." Although, she hated to admit that his magical ability was very facinating to the Balinese.
"Thank you. It's Russian, according to a friend of mine." Apparently. Eden wasn't really one to say the truth all the time. Ekaterina sat up and put her arms back so she was leaning backwards but still looking at the Somali as she, herself, manouevered her body into a different postion. She looked with a certain appreciation like someone who was looking at a artistic masterpiece. However, as soon as Nora spoke again, her eyes darted back to the other as she made movements with her hands.
"Sparkles? He could do a lot more than sparkles when he was here, years and years ago." She didn't say it coldly, just simply. Kat put her weight (which wasn't much) on one arm and lifted the other, sticking out a finger inbetween the two of them and proucing a few sparkles. "You have an interesting coat, m'dear. It is very lovely."
Vanora almost scoffed, but graciously restrained herself. Unpleasant was certainly not the world she would use. The words Vanora often thought of were more vile, unspeakable for most; they unquestionably fit the red tom better. She had no idea of the torment Ekaterina had been through, though it seemed both had been bested by the magical tom. Nora in more ways that one, she knew that. He taken her home from beneath her, threatened her family, forced her to join him and continued to do and command appalling acts upon her.
She turned to look to Kat. “He was here?” This was new to her. She had no idea that he’d been in any other tribe to the Jellicles and Hench cats. Though, she didn’t really know that much about Macavity anyways. Nor did she care to, unless she could use it against him. That was the only problem with joining the Ominous, or the only one she’d thought of at least. They were likely to be milking her for information sometime soon, something she wasn’t looking forwards to. She didn’t really want to spill anything on Bombalurina and her little ones.
The queen almost missed the compliment as she slipped into thought, but caught it, just. “Thank you. Yours is rather stunning too.” She gave a smile, stretching her fingers out to attempt at touching the remnants of the fast disappearing sparkles. “You can call me Nora, by the way, if you wish to. Most do.”
Ekaterina knew 'unpleasant' for Macavity was a understatement and there were plenty of other words she could've used but most of those weren't for young ears and she sensed that Vanora also had a lot like that. "Yes, he was. For a few years in fact before he left to start his own tribe." She answered, her mind in a sort of daze as she curled a lock of headfur around her index finger.
"Mmm..." She mumbled in reply to the Somali's compliment. She'd given up with her looks long ago, knowing that she'd never be as pretty as some of the other queens but it'll always pleased her a little to hear someone say something nice about her appearance. "I will. It is a nice nickname." Her mind wandered off to Konrad for a second or two, wondering where was at that moment, before glancing back at Vanora.
That was quite interesting to her. She had no honest idea why, it just was. It made her wonder if Macavity had been a monster all his life, or whether he had been somewhat nicer here. Though as she reflected on Ekaterina’s earlier comments, she came to the conclusion that it was likely had had been no nicer in his younger years. In fact, she could imagine him as a spoilt little brat now that she came to think about it.
She took a glance back at Kat. The Balinese seemed to have drifted into her own world, and Nora wondered for a moment if she was boring the queen. She often struggled to find something of interest to talk about when she was with a new acquaintance. Well, unless she was talking about herself. Most of the time, she much preferred to listen and discover things that she had previously had no knowing of. Seemed that was happening already.
She gave a “Hmm…” at the nickname comment, taking the moment given to her to take in Rina’s appearance a little better, noting the detail. She scanned her, trying to remember the image and her structure, much like a computer would.
Her own concentration drifted to Vimala for a few seconds, before her gaze returned to the Balinese. “Oh, yes. When its not being used against me, of course. Macavity did that a lot.” She stopped herself shuddering, instead moving to sit by Kat’s side, brushing the dirt off herself. The calico coated queen folded her legs, resting her elbows on the joint of her knees. “I find it quite fascinating, to be honest. The amount of things one single cat can do with that power. Heal, destroy, read minds; the list is endless, of course.”
Vanora had often wondered if her life would have taken a different course, if she’d had magic herself. Would she have been able to fight of those toms, help defeat Macavity, help save so many cats in the Jellicle tribe and even heal herself? Her mind was pushing for her to ask if Kat knew if her powers extended as far as being able to cure her infertility, but she kept that quite for now.

Ekaterina nodded, her eyes following the Somali as she moved to the space beside her. If Kat was a normal cat, she would've been rather sympathetic but instead kept silent, working through Nora's head until she'd finally had enough. She cut out of the other's thoughts as they started to worsen and grimace. Macavity had something coming for him and Kat was going to make sure it hurt. Vanora was one of the tribe now and if one cat was hurt, the whole tribe was hurt in the skinny queen's books.
"Most of the time it is. Sometimes it's a terrible burden. You have no idea how many cats come wanting help or a favour. It wasn't great getting the magic either." She grabbed her tail and showed it to the other queen. It was sparkling blue. "Puddles and powerlines do NOT mix."
Still doesn't feel like xmas. What is wrong with me this year?

Her eyes gave the slightest of flutters, making it appear as though she was on the brink of fainting for a few seconds. At the same time, her temples throbbed and her head ached. She didn't know it, but Ekaterina was sifting through her mind. Through the memories and feelings, and even when the relief of her leaving came, Vanora had no idea what the other queen had just done. If she had, she'd have certainly considered it a breech of privacy, but would have quickly forgotten the matter.
No, instead she remained with her head quite firmly resting in her hands. Vimala dominated her thoughts, probably something Kat would have noticed, before reality tugged her back and she began to listen once more. "Really? Wow." Quite coincidental that a few moments ago, she'd been considering asking a favour of Kat for herself, but Vanora didn't click. She was a little dim sometimes.
Her little brown eyes widened at the sight of the Balinese's sparkling tail, as well as her explanation for it. Powerlines? She'd gained her magic via an accidental electricution? That was all? Why hadn't she tried that years ago? When had it become so easy. Honestly, Vanora had always believed magic was a gift cats were born with, but Ekaterina proved her wrong. Curious, she reached out a paw to the blue sparks, a little shiver going through her as once bounced onto her finger.
"Painful... she couldn't take her eyes away from the glowing tail.

"Sorry" was the muttered response. She was just a cat, too curious for her own good. "I can help with that if you want." Ekaterina wasn't usually like this but this time she was genuinely interested in Vanora. A good guinea pig? Probably. An assistant? Maybe. Someone that could help her get back at Macavity? All the possibilities...
"Yes, very. But don't try it. We wouldn't want that pretty coat of yours ruined by silly little blue sparkles."
Still doesn't feel like xmas. What is wrong with me this year?

She wasn't quite sure why the other queen was apologising, unless...Well, maybe she had caused her sudden headache. Vanora wasn't sure, so she simply shrugged it off. After another few moments of staring in pure awe at the balinese's sparkling tail, she tore her eyes away to glance up at her. "Help with what?" Surely she had her dim head on today. Or maybe she was having a 'blonde' day, as humans called it. She still wasn't sure what that meant...
Vanora frowned slightly when Ekaterina insisted she didn't attempt electrocuting herself. She wasn't quite stupid, or rather brave enough to try such a thing, but now she knew powers were so easy to get, it left her buzzing with excitement. "Sparkles might make it more...interesting." She mumbled, dreamily.

"Getting rid of those nasty memories, of course. I would be able to get rid of all of them but it could help you." Ekaterina observed her nails, glancing up every now and then. "You seem to think a lot about that Vimala of yours. You like her a lot, yes?" She put her hand back to her side and looked at the queen. Love was such an interesting topic. She'd never experienced it, just wanted it. It was lust that pulled Konrad to her.
"No, I don't think so. Magic can be horrible. Look what happened to me."
